Switch layout mode
Open Layout and select a mode. If Revelation asks about unsaved positions, save them as a view before switching to keep your arrangement.
| Mode | Use it for | Working with it |
|---|---|---|
| Drag & Drop | Architecture and process diagrams needing deliberate placement | New elements receive positions automatically; drag them to refine the diagram. Connections reroute around obstacles. |
| Radial | A discussion centred on one system | A central system is surrounded by related elements. Interactive recentering helps explore another focal point. |
| Grid | Property-based grouped overviews | Use Menu → Group by… to enable grouping and select the property for columns. |
| Sequence | Messages over time | Participants appear as lifelines. Interaction order controls the order of messages and fragment markers. |
Direction and initial placement
The model's Direction setting influences automatic placement and BPMN lane orientation. Existing stored geometry can continue to determine where elements are drawn. A direction change is not a guarantee that every manually positioned box will be rearranged.
Large models
The current Drag & Drop limit is 300 systems and 400 interactions. The app checks active records across the model, not just how many boxes you can see in a small view. Above a limit, the editor can switch to Grid or reject a Drag & Drop selection. Use another layout or a smaller working model.
Stored and automatic positions
Missing positions and dimensions use layout defaults. To preserve an arrangement, save a named view, then save the model. A layout name from an older version may resolve to Drag & Drop; inspect and resave the result.
Legend placement
In layouts that allow it, drag the legend to a clearer position. Layout → Reset legend position restores automatic placement. This command is unavailable if there is no legend or the layout does not allow manual legend placement.
